It took a sudden death playoff to separate the top two teams at this year’s regional Year 9 Spelling Bee competition. Held at Feilding High School, two Cornerstone teams entered the 12 round, involving spelling, definitions and synonyms.
At the end of the 12 rounds, Cornerstone teams placed 5th and 1st equal out of 14 schools. The sudden death playoff to find a winner was tremendously close, with a solitary point separating Cornerstone from eventual winners, Nga Tawa. Our congratulations to Caragh Aspden, May Moriyama, Ben Titus and Joel Titus for almost winning the event, as well as Cameron Casey, Ryan Clark, Deborah Clements and Christian Ruihi-Lewis whose fifth place was still a commendable achievement!
