Playing against secondary schools with five or ten times as many students was no barrier for Cornerstone teams at this year’s Secondary Sports Tournament week.
As the beaten finalists at the Woolaston Hockey Tournament in Rotorua last year, Cornerstone’s First XI boys hockey team had high goals entering their week long tournament. The team remained unbeaten through the week, topping their pool. A tough game against Tauhara College from Taupo, placed them into the semi-finals, where they had their first loss. The team finished the week with a 5-2 win over Northcote College from Auckland, who they beat in pool play, to leave the tournament with a credible 3rd place. With a squad largely made up of Year 11 and 12 students, the future looks bright for Hockey at Cornerstone.
The Senior Girls netball team traveled to Wellington for their Lower North Island Secondary Tournament. With a team also made up mostly of Year 11 and 12 students, the girls had a lot of close games to finish in 20th position – their best ever result.
