Longburn Adventist College joined the Cornerstone-Hastings Christian School sports exchange for the first time this year. It was a full programme of action with three schools playing 12 codes over 24 hours.
The Cornerstone Boys performed well, winning Football and indoor Futsal games. The Cornerstone Girls’ teams contributed with wins in Netball and Volleyball. However, Hastings Christian School (HCS) commanded both boys’ and girls’ Dodgeball. HCS also picked up wins in Basketball and Volleyball to narrowly retain the trophy.
The exchange was designed for Secondary Christian school students to compete on the field, and also to share devotions, meals and worship together. The games might have been fierce and competitive, but afterwards the competitors were truly amicable.
Organising host teacher – Mr McDonald – was happy with how close the competition was with just one or two games deciding the winning school. He was particularly impressed with the skill and leadership from Amon Sahayam in Cornerstone’s football efforts. “Thanks to (student-leaders) Abi, Kate and CJ for all their work behind the scenes”, Mr McDonald said. He was quick to acknowledge the servant hearted students who helped organise, set up, and clean up after the event.
