Our School

Our Beginning

History and Background

Cornerstone Christian School was established in 1987 as a private primary school and became a state-integrated school in 1994. It started with Year 1–8 and, after years of prayer, planning and growth, expanded to a full Year 1–13 school by 2018. Our campus is located on Mihaere Drive in Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North, where we have modern facilities for junior, middle, and senior students.

Over the years, CCS has grown to a roll of around 600 students while maintaining a close-knit family atmosphere. We are governed by a partnership between our Board of Trustees (for day-to-day governance) and the Cornerstone Christian Education Trust (our Proprietor, responsible for the school’s special character and property). Together, these bodies have stewarded CCS from humble beginnings in 1987 to the thriving community it is today.

Special Character

Our Faith and Values

CCS is a Christ-centered learning community. As a “special character” Christian school, our Biblical worldview is central to all aspects of school life.

We see education as an outworking of faith: “In Your light we see light” (Psalm 36:9). Here’s what defines our special character:

Vision

“To be confident followers of Jesus Christ, equipped and inspired to creatively impact our world.” We want our students to graduate not only with knowledge and skills, but with a strong faith and a desire to make a positive difference.

Mission

“To provide, with parents, a balanced Christian education to help children develop to their full potential in God.” We view parents as partners and acknowledge that each child’s abilities are God-given our task is to nurture and develop them.

Motto

“Learn, Serve and Grow in God.” This simple phrase is visible around our campus and reminds us daily of our purpose. Academic learning, acts of service, and spiritual growth are equally valued at CCS.
